Free PLY to OBJ Converter for Scan Surface Editing

The PLY to OBJ Converter lets you move a PLY surface mesh into an OBJ-compatible modeling tool for cleanup and shape changes. Texture maps are not generated from scan colors, so plan texture work separately.

PLY to OBJ Converter: Reference Models for Shape and Surface Detail

Look through these GLB reference assets for shape and surface detail. They provide visual context; the data in your PLY determines your conversion result.

PLY to OBJ Converter: Mesh Surface Extraction

This route extracts an OBJ surface from PLY. It is intended for static geometry exchange, with available mesh attributes carried into the export.

Read a PLY surface mesh

Use a binary or ASCII PLY with indexed triangle or quad faces. Point-only scans and meshes with per-face UVs or colors are not supported by this converter; re-export with vertex attributes first.

Extract an OBJ mesh

Export mesh geometry, normals and available UV coordinates. Vertex colors, MTL files, texture images and animation are not exported.

Keep the source mesh density

The exported OBJ follows the imported surface without automatic decimation. Simplify the scan separately if your modeling workflow needs fewer faces.

A separate .obj download

Save the OBJ result from your browser and keep the .ply source for further work. Conversion does not overwrite the original file.

PLY to OBJ Converter Benefits: Further Modeling from Scan Geometry

Make the reconstructed shape available for modeling while treating texture authoring as a separate part of the asset workflow.

No account or credits needed

Choose your PLY file and save the OBJ result without signing in or using generation credits. Conversion and download are both included.

Your model stays on your device

Your .ply is processed on your device. Creating the .obj download does not send model data to a conversion server.

Use the scanned shape as modeling material

This OBJ gives you a surface to edit when the next step is to refine the scan’s shape rather than display its original vertex colors.

Plan the material handoff separately

The OBJ supplies geometry from PLY. Keep any original surface references available when you or a collaborator rebuild the materials.

PLY to OBJ Converter for scan cleanup, topology revisions and texture preparation

Use the converted file in your own modeling workflow. The examples below cover shape changes and surface preparation after the download.

Continue shaping a scanned mesh

Convert a PLY mesh with faces into OBJ geometry for modeling and cleanup. Work on the surface in your preferred OBJ-compatible editor and build textures separately if needed.

Clean up a reconstructed scan

Open the OBJ in a modeling tool to remove unwanted surface fragments and refine the scanned shape.

Prepare a scan for manual retopology

Use the converted surface as a modeling reference, then create the topology and texture workflow your final asset needs.

Use a scan as a design reference

Bring the converted OBJ into a modeling project to guide new shapes or parts that follow the captured object’s surface.

How to use the PLY to OBJ Converter on see3d.art

Add a supported .ply file and let the converter recognize its format. Choose OBJ as the output, run the conversion and save the download.

  • Add your .ply file

  • Choose OBJ as the output

  • Convert and download the .obj
